Blind War (盲战) is a Chinese action thriller movie that was released on 1 May 2022.

About

Dong Gu (played by Andy On) is a former SWAT captain who is permanently blinded during an explosive altercation at a court house. After getting his life back on track his daughter is kidnapped to be sold into the slave trade and with his disability has to attempt to save her.

Review

Before deciding we were going to watch this movie I never realised Andy On was going to be in it, so it was a pleasant surprise.

If you are looking for an action film then this film will not let you down. The action is not non-stop but there is a lot of it and its fast moving, very well choreographed. The action looked good on the screen but seeing the “making of” clips during the closing credits we could see how much Andy On puts into his performance.

Only a couple of action sequences one could tell that the actors or stuntmen used ropes from the ceiling, not that you could see the ropes but it was the way their body was moving.

The story was clearly secondary to the movie and it was a kind of familiar plot to others. Due to the action sequences there was little room for the characters to develop.

There were a couple of comical characters and they felt really out of place. For example, Dao Dao played Detective Rama, a character that was just too over the top.

I’m not sure where this movie was supposed to be based. There were small parts of it in English. The judge at the beginning of the movie looked absolutely ridiculous, the wardrobe didn’t do a good job with his especially the wig.

Summary

Putting aside the bad comedy moments and some of the actors who felt out of place this was a great “on your seat of your pants” movie. Based on the action I will give it 5/5.
