He is a very popular actor, according to his bio, but I don’t believe we have seen him in anything before.

He Hua (何花) as He Hua
Her character name was the same as her real name? Not sure that was correct but interesting nonetheless.

Vinnie Yao (姚一奇) as Song Qing
He played a support role in the 2013 Ip Man TV series.

Review

This show was related to the TV series “Guardians of the Dafeng”. This was a series that we watched 2 episodes of and gave up on. I didn’t realise this was related to the TV series until I started to watch the film otherwise I wouldn’t have watched it.

Straight from the outset the film appeared to have either some direction or continuity issues, maybe a mix of both.

The special effects were ok and pretty much current with what you see in TV dramas. The fighting and wuxia sequences were ok. Some effects were really bad quite clearly not refined enough and feel kind of rushed.

The story just didn’t warrant that length of movie. There just appeared to be moments during the film where nothing happened and I started to get bored.

The actors appeared to do a good job with what they had.

This felt like a made for TV film rather one that I would pay to go see at a cinema.

Summary

If one was a fan of “Guardians of the Dafeng” then this might be a good film to watch. However, it was all lost on me so I can only give it a 2/5. I know that many people put in a lot of work on the film but it just didn’t work for me.
