Review

This was a great political drama that wasn’t boring, the characters were always developing from the start to finish.

Some of the mannerisms of the characters were a little bit over the top with the crying and kowtowing, maybe that is how they envisage things were back then.

There wasn’t many fight scenes but they were done well.

One of the most memorable scenes was when Cao Cao gave his speech to throngs of his subjects, not for the acting but just the vastness of the set.

In the first number of episodes the music was very dramatic and engaging, little bit like a soap opera cliffhanger. In further episodes they appears to tone it down a bit. Some of the later music seemed very familiar, I think they got it from another show or the composer come up with a similar variation.

There were some really good strong female characters in this series. Sima Yi’s wife was like a fighter but in later episodes became this nag which was a little bit over the top. Sima Yi’s concubine, imposed on him by Cao Pi, was an interesting character although I didn’t want that relationship to happen, only the intellectual side.

At first I was really liking Cao Pi but later on the butter just run off his noodles. This appears to be the way of the Cao’s.

Summary

This show is a must see; good story, very engaging, great actors, and strong female characters. I will give it 5/5.
