Vegetarian Bacon

I am fond of vegetarian bacon products and this is a review of the brands I am aware of and have tried.

Yves

This company produced a range of meat free products, the bacon alternative was my favourite of all products I list here.

They were a decent size, only taking 3-4 minutes to cook and the best tasting.

The negative part of the product is prying the slices of bacon apart from each other and they would break apart during the process.

However, this is all academic now since the company stopped producing its veggie products due to lack of demand.

Lightlife Smart Bacon

This was the next best product to Yves which we found just recently in Haggens in the US. Evidently its also on sale more local to us in SaveOn Supermarket.

Very similar texture, size, taste and cooking time. One could swear that it was actually Yves bacon if one didn’t think too hard.

MorningStar

This product I also found just recently.

They look very different from Yves and Lightlife, they made them look like real streaks of bacon. I”m not sure I like the look of it.

These take longer to cook than the others, about 8 minutes in the frying pan.

The taste is pretty good, not as good as the other two but still pretty dicent. I would buy them again.

This product is only available in the US, not in Canada.

United Kingdom

The UK has some plant based bacon products as well, I have not tried any of them.

Summary

I don’t know how processed these products are or even what they contain so you might want to read up on them for your own needs. However, I enjoy them and will continue to buy them.
